Torrontés is the signature white wine of Argentina, dating from early vineyards first planted in the 1800s. DNA research has shown that the varietal is a cross between the Mission grapes of Galicia, Spain and Muscat of Alexandria. This popular expression of Argentina is growing in acclaim around the world, popular for a light, refreshing wine with Muscat notes redolent of jasmine and orange blossoms.
Excellent as an apéritif, it also finds a welcome place with delicate first courses.

Bright yellow. Lovely nose melds lemon, menthol, dried herbs, lichee and ginger. Then almost surprisingly round, sweet and large-scaled in the mouth; quite full for Torrontés but also vibrant thanks to its healthy acidity (reportedly 6.7 grams per liter). A turpenic resiny quality is nicely countered by bright citricity and a floral note. This seriously palate-saturating Torrontés finishes long and outsized, with a slightly phenolic character. A rather extreme style from high-altitude vines (up to 7,500 feet) but it works. (made entirely in stainless steel)

Natalia Jessa is the mastermind behind Gota which has a simple yet bold objective: craft aromatically-driven, authentic fine wines of Portugal, while remaining value-conscious. Her many prior travels throughout Portuguese wine country on behalf of one of Europe?????s major food markets enabled Natalia to develop invaluable relationships and gain access to some of the most exciting and as-of-yet undiscovered wineries and vineyards. She collaborates with them, as negociant, to select grapes that capture the optimal expression of a vintage. Vineyards are dry-farmed. Vines are ungrafted. To preserve fruit aromatics, winemaking utilizes ambient yeast and minimizes oak use. Adhering to tradition, wines are varietal blends and grapes are only native (no international varietals). Gota means "drop", referring to the humble origins of this project.

Loxarel farms biodynamically, and makes this wine with the three classic cava grapes, parellada, macabeu and xarello (of which Loxarel is an anagram). For a $15 wine, this bottle has great delicacy and finesse."

The Phoenicians transplanted this grape from Alexandria, Egypt to Malaga approximately 2,800 years ago. Over 50 small vineyard plots planted in the Axarquia Malaguena, primarily surrounding the village of Almachar. Given the steep inclinations (up to 70°) and the lack of trellising, terraces, or mechanization, these are the most extreme vineyards in Europe. Vineyards planted Between 1946-1975. Traditional dry-farmed goblet trained bush vines. Cultivated by hand, with minimal human intervention. No organic matter or soil whatsoever. Solid slate rock and decomposed slate with a small percentage of white quartz.

Made with 98% Nerello Mascalese and 2% Nerello Cappuccio, the Tenuta delle Terre Nere 2022 Etna Rosso is an ample and ambitious production of 160,000 bottles. Fruit from the youngest vines is directed here and is selected from across the estate's holdings on the north-facing side of the volcano, where some of the best vineyards are located. With 14 months in French oak casks, the wine opens to a lean garnet appearance with aromas of pressed violet, cassis and Sicilian blood orange. It ends with balanced freshness over a mid-weight texture and a pop of bright cherry.
