Bodegas La Cana Albarino Rias Baixas 2023

Crushed seashells, chalk, salted lemons and sliced apples on the nose. Bone-dry salinity brings out plenty of briny austerity on a textured, medium-bodied palate. Pithy and gastronomic in the finish. I like the fact that this is not a fruity but rather a bony albarino. Bring on the oysters!

The Palace of Fefiñanes has been inextricably linked with wine since the 17th century, and it was in the early 20th century that the winery was established as a commercial company. In 1928, the Albariño de Fefiñanes brand and label were created and a truly pioneering project was begun. The unique Albariño grape variety, grown in the Salnés valley, has always taken centre stage in our
wines. We have devoted the utmost care and attention to this variety, ensuring that its special character, extraordinary varietal expression and its uniqueness are perfectly preserved.

The 2023 Zarate is the flagship Albariño that shows the character of the year, with more moderate ripeness, 12.5% alcohol and a balanced and elegant profile. It's clean, floral and still a little reductive (this is 100% stainless steel) and should open up with a little more time in bottle. There is some 30% of wine with malolactic in the final blend. It has less concentration and alcohol than the 2022, with more finesse and freshness and is a little more herbal. This is a superb example of Albariño from Salnés.

The eponymous flagship village white 2023 Albamar… has clarity, purity and transparency, which seems to define the 2023 vintage, and it is floral and perfumed but serious, with a vibrant palate. It is easy to drink, with moderate alcohol, good freshness… and finishes with a salty touch. It's very tasty, one of the finest vintages-if not the finest-for this bottling, which has also grown in volume
Albamar is located on the northwestern coast of Spain where the wines are heavily influenced by the atlantic ocean. Albarino has become one of the great white grapes of Spain and Xurxo Alba has become one of its benchmark producers. He is the living personification of Albarino and his wine is salty and refreshing like the kiss of a mermaid. We don’t know from experience but he does. 12.5% abv

The young and tender 2022 Albari??o is the blend of the grapes from 165 plots in the Saln??s, fermented with a pied de cuve from the old vines, fermented in stainless steel and matured with lees. It has a balsamic nose with notes of grass and bay leaf, a round palate with pungent flavors and good acidity. It's clean and varietal, reflecting a warmer year.

Bodegas Aquitania Rias Baixas Legado del Fraile Albarino 2022
90 V
Your Price: $15.97

The 2022 Albariño Legado del Fraile, originating from Rías Baixas, underwent a brief lees-aging in tank. It exhibits a green hue and reveals tropical and herbal notes atop a layer of green apple. With a dry and refreshing profile. This white wine is taut and savory, leaving a rich, enduring finish.
Grapes are pressed and macerated with the skins at cold temperatures for several hours to add aromatics and incorporate the native yeasts. The wine is then seperated from the skins and allowed to warm to begin fermentation. About half way through fermentation the wine is racked off the gross lees and allowed to continue. The gross lees are maintained and used as nutrient additions to help fermentation along. The wine ages on the fine lees for a few weeks with occassional stirring. The wine is bottled filtered and stabalized. Malo sometimes happens but is not controled.
