Spending 18-24 glorious months aging in used bourbon barrels from legendary Pappy Van Winkle, old vine fruit shines through with aromas and flavors of blueberry liqueur, blackberry, black cherry and peppery spice. Then there is a graceful segue into wood smoke, brown sugar, vanilla, and sweet spice that frame all of that ripe and savory fruit very nicely. Super full bodied and full flavored, but smooth and silky on the palate, this is probably about as close as most of us will get to Pappy van Winkle. -PJ Wine

Winemaker Notes:
A minimalist winemaking style, free of over-manipulation, keeps the fresh, bright fruit flavors of the Pinot Noir grape intact from vineyard to bottle. The wine was carefully aged in small oak barrels, providing just the right balance between delicate varietal flavors, crisp acidity and complementary oak character.

Inspired by the cider tradition in the Basque Country, we wanted to make a dry, wildly natural cider with beautiful acidity, and we were excited to see what spin New York apples would give to this style of cider. We discovered that the incredible acidity of New York apples really packs a punch, in the true spirit of Brooklyn! Our Raw cider is fresh and mouth puckering with crisp green apple and citrus aromas. Raw undergoes three fermentations with wild and wine yeasts, making it an earthy cider remarkably expressive of its terroir. It is aged on the lees for a minimum of 6 months. -Brooklyn cider House

A slightly sweet version of Cabernet Sauvignon, while it has the primary characteristics of a Cab, pronounced berries, dark chocolate, coffee, and leather, it loses the some of the harshness that turn people away from Cabs. It has a soft luscious feel to it with a well rounded mouth. Goes well with red meat, chicken, and especially those that are marinated with a sweet finish.

Ripe stone fruits, pear, brioche, and honeyed flower notes all emerge from the 2022 Sierra Cantabria Organza, a deeper, richer white that has medium-bodied weight and depth, a layered mouthfeel, integrated acidity, and a great finish. It's a classic Rioja Blanco offering ample richness and depth as well as balance.

Bright and textured, with a medium to full body and a long, minerally finish. Very gastronomic. Viura, malvasia and garnacha blanca. Barrel fermented. A great-value pick. Drink or hold.

Hot pink in hue, the 2024 Dry Rosé Nutt Road Vineyard is what Cabernet Franc Rosé is all about. Ripe strawberry, red licorice, hard candy, tobacco leaf, lavender and a green herbaceous tilt lend tons of nuance and varietal character to this layered, especially vinous Rosé. It really explodes through the mid-palate and finish. I wouldn’t hesitate to give this some time in the cellar, but it’s suave and sophisticated today, with generous weight and hefty structure to burn. Impressive.

From a slightly more challenging year for the region, the 2020 Muga Seleccin Especial checks in as 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha, and the rest Graciano and Mazuelo that's aged six months in new French barrique, followed by two full years in older French and American (70/30) oak barriques. Rocking levels of cassis and black raspberry-like fruit as well as graphite, spicy wood, violets, and lead pencil notes all shine on the nose, and it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a round, layered mouthfeel, and silky tannins. It's already hard to resist.

Their most gastronomical red is the 2020 Seleccin Especial, a blend of the four traditional varieties from RiojaTempranillo, Garnacha Tinta, Mazuelo and Gracianofermented in oak vats. Half of the destemmed grapes were put through an optical sorting machine. The wine matured in French oak barrels, 40% of them new, for 26 months and was racked every eight to nine months. 2020 was a warm year, and the wine comes in at 14.5% alcohol, with a pH of 3.56 and 5.75 grams of acidity. Manu Muga likes 2020 very much and says it's a year that suffers because it's in between 2019 and 2021. This is also a textbook example of this wine, a little more developed and tertiary, with generous spice and toast and a palate with more grip. The tannins are not as precise and elegant as those from 2021 (yeah, it suffers in the comparison), but it's a very worthy wine. 246,120 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2023 after being fined with egg whites.

Mint, blackberries, cocoa powder, graphite, black pepper and roasted dark spices. Full-bodied and juicy, with lots of tannins that are quite sinewy and fine-grained. Really long. Needs at least two more years to come around. Tempranillo, garnacha, mazuelo and graciano. Drink after 2026.

Sourced from a mix of sites in Kallstadt and one vineyard in Bad Dürkheim where the soils here are light and sandy. The grapes were handpicked, destemmed and fermented in stainless stee. The wine is pale, succulent and nervy with terrific cran/cherry fruit, fresh soil notes and very little oak in evidence. 12% abv

Bouquet has notes of cherry with hints of violet. Red fruits, with a gentle spicy note. Balanced, velvety palate leads to a soft tannic finish. A great change of pace from California Cabernet Sauvignons.

The very young and just bottled 2024 Dócil, still undeveloped, is closer to the original idea to produce a kind of Kabinett trocken with Loureiro grapes with contained ripeness and high acidity counterbalanced by a little residual sugar, only around three grams; they experimented from completely dry to 18 grams, and this is the one they liked the most in terms of balance. They did a soft pressing, no maceration, to have elegance and a little volume. It has very good balance. The source of the grapes changed to a more Atlantic location from this vintage, and the year was also cooler than 2022.

A smooth, balanced easy sipping Tequila - an excellent example of a blanco. Nose and palate characterized by menthol, vanilla, peppery agave and some sweetness. Casamigos was co-founded by actor George Clooney.

Aged in charred American white oak for 10 years. The result is a special expression of Bulleit that provides a rich, deep, smooth sipping experience. Deep russet in color, rich oaky aromas. Smooth taste with vanilla, dried fruit, and a long, smoky finish. 45.6%abv. Gold Medal - 2013, 2014, 2015 San Francisco World Spirits Competition

Aged for ten years, the nose is complex, with aromas of toffee, hints of orange peel, herbs, honey, leather and oak. The taste is bold, dry and delicate with notes of candied almonds and very rich cocoa. The finish is dry and lingering. 45%abv. Silver Medal - 2018 New York International Spirits Competition

Teremana is a premium 100% Blue Weber Agave tequila grown in the Highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. Roasted in brick ovens, distilled in copper pot and aged in American whiskey barrels. The blanco has notes of bright citrus with a smooth, fresh finish. Gluten free. 40%abv

Banhez Mezcal is produced by a co-op comprised of families from various villages in the Ejutla district of Oaxaca. They produce mezcal the same way it's been done by their ancestors for nearly two centuries.

Comprised of 90% Espadin and 10% Barril agaves, this mezcal is pleasingly mild, floral and fruity with notes of pineapple, banana. 42%abv

Fresh and fruit-centric, the price here may be super accessible for everyday, but its treatment by this famed Douro producer is nothing less than classically old-school. The point in a young, vintage-blended ruby is to keep the fruit lively and juicy, with a texture that feels velvety-luxurious in your mouth and is nothing less than a pleasure on the tongue. Taylor Fladgate's Special Ruby NV port sees up to four years in large, oak casks and when you sip it, you can really feel that intense softness and supple texture from not rushing it through the process. It's got pretty notes of black and red plums and bright cherry, and is oh-so irresistible alongside some pungent, tangy Cashel blue cheese. -- PJ

Domaine Clos des Rocs Macon-Loche En Pres Foret is characterized by floral and lemony notes on the nose, the attack is fresh supported by a balanced structure enriched with wall fruit aromas.
