This wine gives us our first taste of the epic 2021 vintage from a producer as prolific as Produttori del Barbaresco. Bottled in April 2024, this vintage shows the immense power and complexity that likens it to 2016, another year for collectors. The 2021 Barbaresco offers medium-rich density that is transmitted both to the wine's appearance and its mouthfeel. There is black fruit, spice and a touch of nutmeg. However, the wine maintains its youthful tension and energy throughout. The tannins are chalky, fine and void of any bitterness. This is a classical expression of Nebbiolo that gives us good reason to be excited for the upcoming 2021 Barbaresco Riservas...

The 2020 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is a massive, packed wine. Graphite, crushed rocks, dried herbs and cedar open first. Ovello tends to produce a more linear style of Barbaresco, and that is very much the case here as well. However, the 2020 also possesses notable depth and layers in the mid-palate. It's a gorgeous wine in the making. (Drink between 2025-2035)

The Ovello vineyard has some northern exposures and generally represents a cooler growing site. You can expect intense fruit flavors and more prominent tannins as a result. The Produttori del Barbaresco 2020 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello fits the bill. Vine growth starts much later and usually lasts longer to produce dark intensity and bold aromas in the wines. In the cold years, the tannins can be aggressive, but in the hot years like 2020, they show better balance. This wine offers ferrous notes of iron and rusty nail followed by cherry-driven sweetness.

Ireland- Triple distilled irish whiskey is an ultra smooth blend of golden grain and single malt with hints of vanilla, honey and toasted wood for a rich complexity. Founded by Mixed Martial Arts Champion Conor McGregor, the name refers to the area where McGregor hails, Dublin 12.

Don’t let the vintage fool you, this is as fresh as can be, it seems as though it hasn’t aged a day! Pulso evokes intense aromas of sour cherries, red fruits and flowers. This medium-bodied red is delicate on the palate with great balance, elegance and mouthwatering acidity. This is a beautiful example of Malbec with character in excess.

Sustainable with very low intervention. 92% Malbec and 8% Cabernet Franc. Native yeasts with long post-alcoholic fermentation macerations. 3 different vinification techniques are used for Malbec:#1 Traditional vinification with whole berries. #2 Whole berries fermentation + 30% reincorporated stems. #3 Whole berries fermentation in Apollo Eggs for about 120 days.

The Cabernet franc is fermented as whole berries. Aged 12 months in old barrels and Apollo Eggs that allow micro-oxygenation. Only 404 cases were produced.

Located in the coastal region of the Colchagua Valley are the vines that give birth to this wine. The region enjoys a Mediterranean climate: 400 mm rainfall per year concentrated in winter, moderate to high temperatures in summer moderated by the breeze that comes from the mountains in the morning and the ocean in the afternoon. It is a small valley surrounded by mountains from which the soils with decomposed granite originated, in variable depths depending on the slope. A loamy-sand texture that provides the wine with its unique floral aromas. Yields: 8 tons/hectare

Here is a Malbec with a delicate and elegant structure, excellent acidity and a nose full of blueberries, figs, and hints of violets.

Sustainable with very low intervention. 94% Malbec 6% Cabernet franc. The grapes are hand-picked and hand-sorted and the vinification occurs with whole berries. The wine stays in contact with the skins for more than 30 days. A small portion of Malbec was fermented with stems. We are extremely careful with the extraction to obtain very fine tanins. To do this, the best tool is to work with native yeasts and to have good control of the temperatures during fermentation. Aged in old barrels, Apollo eggs and Flexcubes. Unfined and gross filtration. Only 183 cases produced.

The flagship 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon (90% from Champoux Vineyard and 10% from Mach One Vineyard) raised all in new barrels. It's slightly deeper hued than the CVR and has a stunning nose of blackcurrants, smoked tobacco, toasted spices, and graphite with a beautiful varietal, herbal undertone that comes through with time in the glass. Deep, rich, full-bodied, and velvety textured, this thrilling Washington State Cabernet Sauvignon will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and evolve for two decades. This is unquestionably up with the greatest vintages of this cuvee ever made.

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon erupts with a classic Quilceda Creek expression. A big, bold and boisterous wine, it presents a fresh, juicy attack with gobs of succulent, ripe, fresh fruit tones complemented by plenty of oak essences. The palate is full-bodied, fresh, layered and complex, showcasing balanced acidity and fine-grained tannins. The elongated finish suggests that while it can be enjoyed now, patience will be generously rewarded with additional years in the cellar. However, keeping your hands off this gorgeous wine will take a lot of self-discipline. The wine aged for 20 months in 100% French oak. 65,520 bottles produced.

I love the simplicity of the red blend 2020 Candea Tinto, which is straightforward, tasty, juicy and balanced, without any excess or makeup, raw and authentic, with note of wild berries, flowers and herbs and a medium-bodied palate with moderate alcohol and nice balance. Highly drinkable. 14,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2022

100% Baga made via Methode Champenoise to produce a savory and juicy sparkling red wine. Baga is typically known for its deep structure, but these grapes were chosen for their high acidity and good fruit potential. The base wine was initially fermented in stone lagares then transferred to 3k liter old oak tonels to complete fermentation. Secondary fermentation occurs in bottle to add sparkle. This is a Brut Natural so there is no added sugar. The Bruto Natural Tinto jumps out of the glass with bright and brambly fruit. The palate is generous and savory with excellent length.

75% native red varieties/25% white varieties. From a single hectare of 40-year-old vines, a field blend of red and white varieties, planted at almost 2000 feet in elevation on a schistous, north-facing hillside in the Douro. The bunches are co-harvested by hand and partly destemmed. The mix of berries and whole clusters macerates just long enough to take on a clear, pale red color. Fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tank, where the wine is also aged on its fine lees for 11 months, followed by a year in bottle. Having little exposure to air, the wine has a natural, very gentle, desirable spritz to it just upon opening. “Palhete” is Portuguese for the British term “claret” (from the French “clairet” originally), historically applied to the very pale, not-quite-red wines of Bordeaux wines way back in the 14th-15th centuries (only later did claret come to indicate the bigger, truly red, more modern style of Bordeaux red). In the bottle, Palhete references this fresh, very light style of wine, in Portugal’s case achieved through a co-fermentation and short maceration of white and red varieties.

Quinta do Infantado Douro Tinto is a bold yet balanced red blend from Portugal’s Douro Valley, made from traditional native varieties like Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Roriz. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and bottled with minimal intervention, it shows ripe blackberry and plum notes accented by dried herbs, spice, and a touch of schist-driven minerality. Medium-bodied with polished tannins, it’s a soulful expression of the Douro’s dry wine potential.

This mineral aromatic delight bursting with grapefruit, stone fruit, and jasmine notes takes the 100% Alvarinho up a notch. Elegant, with a creamier silkier mouth feel than expected from this varietal, and with enough persistent acidity to lead through any meal.

This is really vivid, with a beautiful range of cassis, cherry pur??e, boysenberry coulis and plum reduction notes unfurling across the palate while succulent licorice, warm fruitcake and enticing red and black tea notes sing back up. The long, refined finish has plenty in reserve for the long haul. One of the stars of the vintage. Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Alicante Bouschet and Tinta Amarela. Best from 2040 through 2060.

Expressive red berries, flowers, mint and crushed rocks burst from the glass as this energetic wine shows off its pure vibrancy and class. Coutier's NV Brut Rose is another clear winner. Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir are fermented in stainless steel.

2021 Base. The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru is a striking wine, and frankly one of the best wines I have ever tasted from Courier. Pure Blanc de Blancs is unusual in Ambonnay, where Pinot plays the leading role. Courtier's NV presents an intriguing combination of the richness that is typical of Ambonnay married to deep, expressive varietal Chardonnay fruit. Smoke, ash, and crushed rocks are all layered into the energetic, vibrant finish. This is a flat-out delicious, utterly joyous Champagne from Courier. 100% Chardonnay

Radikon's 750ml bottlings are Sasa Radikon's addition to his dad Stanko's original 500ml line: they are still "orange" wines but less intensely so due to a shorter period of skin contact and aging. Otherwise, all of the wines are made identically: the Pinot Grigio is destemmed and fermented with natural yeasts in oak vat, with no temperature control and no sulfur. Maceration lasts for 10-14 days (versus 3 months for the 500ml wines). After a gentle pressing, the wine is put in 3500-liter Slavonian oak barrels for a year and a half on its lees; it is bottled without filtration and with only a miniscule amount of sulfur. This Pinot Grigio bottling was dubbed "Sivi" starting in the 2016 vintage; it means "gray" in Slovenian, in reference to the grayish-pink color of the grape's skin

Radikon’s 750ml bottlings, known informally as the “S” line, are Sasa Radikon’s addition to his dad Stanko’s original 500ml line: they are still “orange” wines but less intensely so due to a shorter period of skin contact and aging. Otherwise, all of the wines are made identically: the Chardonnay and Sauvignon are destemmed, crushed and co-fermented with natural yeasts in oak vat, with no temperature control and no sulfur. Maceration lasts for 10-14 days (versus 2.5-3 months for the flagship wines). After a gentle pressing, the wine is put in 6000-liter Friulian-made French oak botti for a year on its lees; it is bottled with a tiny amount of sulfur and without filtration and then aged in bottle for a year before release. Slatnik is named for a nearby village.

The young, balsamic and still faintly medicinal entry-level white 2023 Louro is dense, ripe and powerful at 13.9% alcohol, pungent and intense with a bitter twist in the finish. It's very tasty, almost salty, with cleanliness and precision, combining power with freshness and elegance. This is quite impressive and a preview of the rest of the 2023s to come. 215,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2024.

Grapes for the 2023 Chardonnay Russian River Valley were harvested over the course of a month, from initial picks on September 13 to the last pick on October 14. It was barrel-fermented, underwent full malolactic conversion and was matured for 12 months in 10% new French oak barrels. It has open, inviting aromas of stone fruit and pineapple, panna cotta, ginger, toasted brioche and honey. The palate combines concentrated, layered flavors with fireworks of fresh acidity, and it has a very long, perfumed finish.

The 2019 Reserva is a Tempranillo sourced from San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Abalos, Rioja Alta. Aged for 18 months in used American and French barrels, this dark garnet wine delivers notes of blackberry, plum, bay leaf and mint, accompanied by hints of nutmeg and coconut. Dry and fairly creamy, with a juicy flow, the fine tannins and chalky mouthfeel lead to a medium-bodied finish.

The 2023 La Vitoriana Lomas de Valtuille is a Mencia from the eponymous paraje in Valtuille, sourced from a centenary vineyard. It fermented with 100% whole clusters and aged for up to 11 months in barrel. This is expressive on the nose, with flowers, mint, white pepper and dried blossoms providing aromatic lift. The tannins are fine, the palate is flavorful and the whole-cluster fermentation gives it a compact, tight finish.

The 2023 La Vizcaina La Vitoriana is the only red from the Vizcaina range that is not from their own vines, as they buy the grapes, 1.1 hectares in the lower part of the lieu-dit that has sandy soils (the other parts have clay). It's quite linear and with good acidity but ripened thoroughly. There are no white grapes here, only a small percentage of Bastardo, and the vines are 100+ years of age. This is a small lieu-dit in a cooler place in the village, a place that is harvested later. Some 5,000 bottles produced.

The 2023 El Rapolao Lomas de Valtuille is a Mencía from a centenary vineyard in Bierzo that is trained from head to trellis. It fermented with 100% whole clusters and aged for up to 11 months in barrel. This is direct, offering pomegranate, cherry, violet, rosehip and a hint of mint that refreshes the bouquet. It is juicy and tense, with fine, slightly dry tannins delivering freshness and energy. The finish is compact and marked by the stem character.

The young 2022 Ultreia Saint Jacques was selected from 10 vineyards, mostly cooler places because of the warmer year. The nose is harmonious and subtle, and it doesn’t show any excess ripeness or heat. In fact, it is most impressive. It fermented with 100% full clusters and matured in used oak‡barrels and foudres‡for 14 months. The palate is medium-bodied, with a juicy texture and very fine tannins. It has a lot of fruit, but with time, it develops more complexity, with notes of fennel and aromatic herbs.
