Silky, elegant and wonderfully nuanced, the 2019 Gattinara Il Putto is seriously impressive. All the elements are impeccably balanced. Soaring aromatics meld into a core of bright, red-toned fruit. Medium in body, yet deep and resonant, this classically built Gattinara is fabulous. I especially admire the energy and purity here.
The name Il Putto refers to a decorative tile on the facade of the fifteenth century cathedral of Gattinara showing the role of the cultivation of grapes in the area.
SOIL
Volcanic origin, rocky on a base of granite and porphyry,rich in minerals and particularly iron. Acidic ph.

Hand-harvested.
VINIFICATION
Fermented in stainless steel tanks with 20 days of maceration with the skins.
AGING
26 months aging in large, neutral Slavonian oak casks with additional time in stainless steel beyond that.
