This is a beautiful rose from Veneto, Italy, comprised of 60% Corvina, 35% Rondinella, and 5% Molinara. The color is extremely delicate but don’t let that fool you as this wine has quite the presence on the palate. Very well-balanced and structured with much more character to offer than the color suggests. The grapes are harvested about a week earlier than for the straight Bardolino to preserve freshness. The skin contact pre-fermentation is overnight. Varieties are all fermented together in stainless steel and malolactic fermentation is blocked. Aged on its lees until bottling in February.

Carpano is the oldest brand of Vermouth and was the first Vermouth, invented in 1786 in Turin by Antonio Benedetto Carpano. The Antica Formula 1 was created shortly after. Flavorings include vanilla from Madagascar, Tahiti and Papua New Guinea, Iranian saffron and wormwood the Italian mountains. It has a bouquet and palate of dried fruit, spices, vanilla, raisin and cloves. 16.5%abv

The grape, which actually originates from Burgundy, loves not only the climate in South Tyrol, but also the soil conditions. It has found a second homeland here, and has become the most widely planted grape variety. It is appreciated for its freshness, nice acidity and pleasant, lingering aftertaste.

Pinot Grigio thrives in the Alpine air of northeastern Italy, and this version from Kris is no exception. Vermentino di Sardegna Costamolino is a clean, precise white that seems to have acquired an extra level of textural richness in this vintage. Beautifully delineated throughout, the Costamolino shows off lovely balance and a pure, crystalline finish.

An intense impact with powerful notes of cherry, plum and violet opens a bouquet that then fades into neat aromas of tobacco, chocolate, cinnamon and spicy hints of black pepper. Great complexity in the overall bouquet, neat expressions of the authentic Sangiovese and Chianti Classico aromas. Full-bodied, very powerful in its fruity notes, with elegant tannins perfectly supported by a good acidity. The finish is characterized by pleasant sensations of sweet tobacco. The aftertaste is particularly long and shows powerful notes of plums and lighter aromas of clove.

An incredible find from Southern Italy. This medium-bodied red displays beautiful blackberry and dark cherry notes. The tannins are soft and easy going.

Ripe and very fresh at the same time. I like the grilled thyme, garrigue, stones and graphite characters laid upon the berries and cherries on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied on the palate with nice tension in the middle, connecting the fresh entry to a mineral, medium-long finish. Delicious now, but will drink well in the next five to six years.

Maceration on the skins for 18 days; alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature in stainless steel basins; malolactic fermentation in barriques; ageing in 225 litre barriques for 10 months, in cement vats for 6 months and 12 months in bottle.

A terrific value proposition, the organic Valle dell'Acate 2022 Sicilia Vittoria Il Frappato shows a light appearance with shiny ruby colors. This wine is fragrant and punchy with lots of vibrant cherry fruit, wild berry and sour cassis. Hints of caper or green olive also appear. You get energy and tension in this easy-drinking red. Valle dell'Acate makes a really fun bottle of Frappato that hits all the right marks.

An absolutely lip smacking Montelpuciano that shows none of the grapiness or downright ugliness of all too many cheap Abruzo table wines. Instead, the Pietrantonj shows outstanding cherry fruit, dried tobacco, and soft leather. But most importantly, it inspires you to keep returning to the glass. This is our kind of table wine, and for red-sauce-driven Italian food, we'd take this any day over many, many hundred-dollar plus wines that are all pomp and no soul. - PJ
