100% Verdicchio. The fruit is from 10 hectares of various vineyards on the Felici farm, from 10- to 40-year-old vines. The vineyards are between 500 and 600m above sea level; Leo??????s vineyard site at 600m is the highest in the appellation. Harvest was in late September/early October at yields of 11,000kg/ha (about 60hl/ha). Fermentation is in conrete vats and stainlees steel tanks. About half the harvest is macerated a few days on the skins during fermentation. Malolactic fermentation does not take place. Aged on its lees for 6 to 12 months, with six staggered bottlings taking place

The 2023 La Casilla fermented with full clusters and indigenous yeasts in 4,500-liter oak vats and matured in those vats and some 600-liter barrels for nine months. It has incredible freshness, 13% alcohol, a pH of 3.6 and 5.5 grams of acidity. It's complex and serious, a lot more complex than Clos Lojen, despite the small price difference, and it has notes of berries, herbs and flowers, plenty of aromatic Mediterranean herbs and very good freshness and acidity, fine tannins and very good overall balance, ideal with food. It's serious but easy to drink. It's more Rhone than Burgundy. It was bottled in June 2024 and 15,000 bottles were produced. I tasted a bottle of the 2005, their first vintage, and the wine was fully mature, even if the style was different (it has 14.5% alcohol), more extractive and with more oak.

For Juan Antonio Ponce, the 2022 La Estrecha is the vintage that better showcases the finesse of Bobal that they have been looking for, which he describes as fine, ethereal, fresh, elegant and intense. The plot has vines over 75 years old, with 90% Bobal and other mixed varieties on granite soils. It fermented with 100% full clusters in a 4,500-liter barrel and matured in a 5,000-liter oak foudre (instead of in 600-liter barrels like in the past) for 10 months. The wines are not fined, filtered or cold stabilized. This has only 12.5% alcohol, which is possible in the Mediterranean. This is very pale, delicate and ethereal, the change in the ??levage from barrels to larger foudre seems to have had a big impact in the wine that feels more relaxed. 4,800 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2023.

The 2021 Carroa is 100% Tinto Fino from the Burgos side of Ribera del Duero, made from heritage vine selections. It was aged 16 months in French oak barrels, eight months in 12,500-liter French oak vats and finished in 1,900-liter concrete eggs. Garnet in color, it opens with red fruit, balsamic tones and a hint of camphor, layered with blackberry, graphite and tomato leaf. The texture is fine, with delicate tannins and a juicy mid-palate. The finish hints at chalk. Long and complex. A fresh take on Ribera with finesse and charm.

Produced since 1979, Castellares annata sees its usual dollop of Canaiolo Nero as well as a brief passage in small French oak barrels. It is slightly confected to begin, then comes into focus with pure, fresh dark raspberry. Intense floral nuances of violet and rose join in, carrying over on the palate. It is concentrated in flavour with a light dusting of chalky tannins, while intrinsic juiciness keeps it agile. Admirable depth and length for the category. -Michaela Morris, Feb 2025

Cesar's 2023 El Rapolao was sourced from a centenary plot in the coldest part of the village, where the soils are rich in iron and organic matter. It fermented with 30% full clusters in small 1,000-liter vats, with a short maceration of 17 days and an elevage in used 500-liter oak barrels. It comes in at 12.75% alcohol, a pH of 3.58 and 5.38 grams of acidity, with lower alcohol and more freshness and acidity than the previous vintage. This is a place with more rusticity, always a little earthier, with slightly dusty tannins. 1,911 bottles were filled in May 2025.

Cesar Marquez Perez, Raul Perez's nephew, is one of the most precise winemakers in Bierzo with the family Castro Ventosa range and his personal project, which he started in 2015. In the 2023 vintage, he is releasing a new wine from the Villegas area, a lieu-dit in Valtuille on sandy soils. The single-vineyard wines are aging in increasingly larger oak containers, combining 1,200-liter vats with 500- and 600-liter barrels. He owns 7.2 hectares and works a further seven with local growers across Bierzo, from altitudes ranging between 450 to 850 meters above sea level. His production is slowly growing, and he now crafts 60,000 bottles per year.

As he told me while tasting the wines from the family winery, Castro Ventosa, which he also vinifies, "2023 was a cooler vintage with rain at the beginning of the harvest. The wines have a floral, serious and elegant profile with a contained alcohol content of 12.5% to 13%." These are some of the finest and more elegant wines he has produced so far.

The 2023 Pico Ferreira comes from a lieu-dit in the village of Corullon, a northwest-facing, shady slope planted with centenary vines on slate soils. It fermented with 30% full clusters and indigenous yeasts in 1,000-liter vats with 21 days of maceration and matured in a 1,200-liter oak vat and 600-liter barrels for one year. This is a little more discrete and remained closed after being in the glass for a while, whereas the other wines opened up. It comes in at 12.98% alcohol, with a pH of 3.57 and 5.36 grams of acidity, with abundant, slightly dusty tannins. 1,980 bottles produced. It was bottled in January 2025.

Comprising roughly 60% of Fleury??????s production, the workhorse Blanc de Noirs Brut is 100% Pinot Noir from the area??????s distinctive Kimmeridgian soils. Our inaugural release is built around the 2019 harvest, which comprises 45% of the blend; 55% of the blend is from a 65-hectoliter oak foudre??????a perpetual reserve of Pinot Noir dating back to 2006. Bottled for secondary fermentation in June 2020 and disgorged in November 2023 with 3.2 grams per liter of dosage, this release of the Blanc de Noirs Brut offers stunning balance and depth, leading with crunchy apples, cinnamon, and subtle notes of pastry, and featuring a saliva-inducing mineral undergirding which broadens on the wine??????s lengthy finish.

The grapes for this cuv??e (95% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% S??millon) come from a four hectare hillside parcel of clay and limestone soil with a full southern exposure that overlooks the Garonne River in Sainte-Croix-du-Mont. The vines have an average age of 25 years. After a manual harvest, the grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled vats and left on the fine lees for six months prior to bottling.

65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc from 40+ year old vines planted in clay and gravel. This 5th generation Bordeaux house makes classically rendered, dusty, balanced, thoroughly delicious "baby claret.

Danielle Meunier of Ch??teau Haut Segottes is the winemaker. Chateau Haut-Segottes second wine provides a supple, beguiling counterpoint to the flagship cuv??e??????s muscular classicism. Comprised entirely of Merlot??????partly from a one-hectare plot in the dark-sand soils of Corbin, and partly from a hectare in Fortin??????Clos Petit-Corbin displays the sheer elegance the variety can achieve in this appellation. Florent and Danielle employ no new wood here, and a small portion of the wine remains in tank during the ??l??vage, thereby further emphasizing its purity and drinkability. What strikes the drinker about this wine is its sense of grace: this is not Merlot forced into some caricature of voluptuousness or gym-pumped into an awkward imitation of Cabernet; rather, it revels comfortably in its lip-smacking red-fruited prettiness. It??????s the kind of wine that can only be produced here, and only by growers who are able to fully trust noble Merlot to be its truest self.

40% Malbec, 30% Syrah, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. This is the one wine in our Mexican wine selection that speaks to the Mexican heat. This is a full-bodied red with a voluptuous presence on the palate and chewy tannins. Reminded me of the wines of Ribera del Duero, decadent but crafted really well.

Domaine Clos des Rocs Macon-Loche En Pres Foret is characterized by floral and lemony notes on the nose, the attack is fresh supported by a balanced structure enriched with wall fruit aromas.

Farmed using organic and biodynamic practices, this juicy, spicy, peppery Syrah is meant to be enjoyed for fun sans fuss with a group of friends. Charcuterie and fries are magical pairings! Domaine des Marrans is located in Fleurie, in the heart of the northernmost section of Beaujolais. Founded in 1970, the current proprietor is the young and talented Mathieu M??linand, who joined the family domaine in 2008. With old vines and crystalline granite sites, Mathieu is growing some of the most pristine Gamay we know. The vines are pruned in the traditional Gobelet vinetraining method and the harvest is done only by hand, using small crates to minimize oxidation. In the cellar, vinification is old school, with semi-carbonic maceration using whole clusters, minimal intervention, and only indigenous yeasts used. The wines are then aged in large older barrels for 10 months before bottling. This lineup is remarkably pure and fresh for 2015, with a grain and spice to the old vine Gamay that underlines how Mathieu nailed the harvest date for this vintage. These wines display their terroir with clear definition and racy floral deliciousness.

From four hectares across three plots in Les Marans, Les Ballis, and La C??te. Soil is granite, manganese, and sand. Vines average 40 years-old. Whole cluster fermentation in concrete vats, aged 70% in vat and 30% in used oak barrels.

A co-ferment of Trebbiano 40%, Sauvignon Blanc 21%, Marsanne 19%, Chardonnay 10%, Colombard 6%, Viognier 4%. Skin contact. 12% abv. This is a serious medium-bodied orange wine that somehow remains delicate on the palate. Tangerine and marmalade notes up front with herbaceousness and tension on the finish.

The Valliant Pinot Noir is made with the same authenticity, simplicity, and raw perseverance as Eden Rift. The wines are romantic and honest, just like the families that have farmed this estate over generations. The 2022 vintage showcases bright acidity and balanced structure. Soft and silky in texture, it is an approachable wine with classic cherry pit, savory, brambleberry, cherry and plum with a refined finish.

Under Vine Since 1849 ? Eden Rift is the oldest continuously producing estate vineyard in California. Located just 20 miles from the Monterey Bay, the 120-acre estate rests on the San Andreas Faultline and is part of the Cienega Valley AVA. Early vintners saw potential in the limestone and dolomite-rich soil, planting Pinot Noir on the estate in 1860. Post prohibition, the focus on Pinot Noir & Chardonnay was lost until 2016 when Christian Pillsbury acquired the estate. Christian assembled a team of young industry professionals starting with winemaker Cory Waller to once again create some of California??????s most vivid energetic Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The extreme terraces and diverse terroir in a single contiguous valley make California??????s oldest estate vineyard one of its most exciting new projects.
