The Marchesi Antinori 2023 Bolgheri Rosso Guado al Tasso Il Bruciato is an easy blend of Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The 2023 vintage reveals a more powerful and riper character compared to 2022. Baked flavors do come through in this latest vintage with prune and cooked plum. But you also get added sweetness from the barrel aging that imparts dustings of cinnamon and nutmeg. The tannins are soft and accessible.

Winemaker Notes:
The wine is dry with intense aromas and appealing flavors of Golden Delicious apples and citrus with a long, multi-layered finish. Excellent as an aperitif and with a medium body that makes it versatile to pair with everything from salads to chicken or grilled fish. Wonderful pairing ideas include butter lettuce with apples, walnuts, and pomegranate seeds, pizza topped with prosciutto and arugula, scallops, with tarragon cream, or tagliatelle with Italian olive oil, lemon zest and pine nuts.

The brightness, lovely density and focus come through clearly here with an almost pinot sensibility and a long finish. It's polished with fine tannins and a brilliant texture. Mostly grapes from San Lorenzo and Calderara Sottana vineyards. Drink or hold.

Temperature controlled fermentation (25-28° C) with spontaneous malolactic fermentation. Aged in large French oak barrels (10-30 hl) for 16 months of wood aging, plus one month in steel. Bottled unfiltered. Annual production on average 11,000 cases

With respect, care and hard farm work, always in organic balance. The estate's philosophy is simple. Given an extreme climate, in order to obtain the best and most consistent ripening, our attention must focus on vineyard management. The finest workmanship in all aspects of viticulture is the first thing that sets us apart. And what enables us, bringing home exceptionally fine grapes, not to be invasive in our cellar work. A work best described as aimed above all at expressing the character of our varieties in their specific terroir. A great team, a delicate hand and a heightened sensibility, as well. And our ideals, that drive us to give the best of ourselves in quest, not of perfection, but of the ideal bond between what nature gives us and that which our sensitivity, experience and imagination suggests. 60 Carricante, 25 Catarratto, 10 Grecanico, 5 Minnella from vineyards located on the northern slopes of the Etna volcano at 600-900 meters above seal level. After harvest at the beginning of October, the grapes go through a soft pressing and low temperature fermentation in stainless steel.

Organic / Natural

In the medium-high to high elevation sites, which are particularly well ventilated, the Pinot Noir finds ideal growing conditions. Very elegant Pinot Noir ripen, which are characterized by interesting berry notes. Fresh stimulating nose with an aromatic spectrum ranging from blackberry and bilberry to a hint of cherry brandy with notes of licorice and aromas of undergrowth. On the palate, this Pinot Noir offers a delightful balance between ripe fruit and a delicate tannin structure which confers elegance on this minerally red wine.

Organic / Natural

Winemaker Notes:
60% Barbera/40% Bonarda (aka Croatina, not the same Bonarda found in Argentina). Trebbiolo is made from the youngest, most productive vines, aged 5-20 years and grown on the estate's gentle slopes and heavy clay soils. The fruit is organically farmed and harvested by hand. It is destemmed and fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel with a 20-day skin maceration; the wine is aged in stainless steel. No sulfur at any point in the process. The name "Trebbiolo" is derived from the name of nearby river and valley Trebbia; if La Stoppa opted into the Italian appellation system, Trebbiolo would be their version of a Gutturnio Fermo DOC wine.

Masses of crushed raspberries mix with wild herbs, dried roses and hints of underbrush as the 2019 Vino Rosso Trebbiolo opens up in the glass. It’s soft and round in feel yet bristling with energy as vibrant acids enliven its crisp red and blue fruits. Sweet spices, zests of citrus and hints of mint form toward the close as this tapers off nicely refreshing with medium length. You’d be hard-pressed to stop at just one glass. The Trebbiolo is a juicy and no-frills blend of 60% Barbera and 40% Bonarda.

Organic

Prugnolo Gentile/Canaiolo Nero/Mammolo. Prugnole Gentile is the variant of Sangiovese in and around Montepulciano and is the majority of the blend, as is traditional and required by law (70% minimum). All of the fruit is from organically farmed estate vines, many of them quite old, and all of them tended carefully by Dora Forsoni; the soil is worked several times per year.

The grapes are destemmed but with many whole berries remaining intact; the fermentation with native yeasts and maceration in concrete is long and slow, as is the gentle pressing to get to the core of each berry (where Dora feels the sweetest part of the fruit lies). The wine is aged in botti for two years before release.
