Organic and biodynamically farmed Zweigelt and Merlot from soils comprised of gravel, sand and chalk. The average age of the vines is 30 years, they are harvested by hand. Twelve day maceration with spontaneous fermentation in neutral oak barrels with indigenous yeasts. No fining, no filtering and no added SO2.
A chillable medium-bodied red that begs to be drunk. This has more mid-palate than many other quaffable Austrian reds. Notes of cassis, blackberry, and pepper. Tannins are soft but present enabling the wine to be a perfect charcuterie pairing.
Georg Schmelzer is a fourth-generation winemaker in the Gols region near Lake Neusiedl in Austria. Georg’s winemaking philosophy is in line with the Demeter guidelines for biodynamic farming. He uses a variety of biodynamic preparations for the revitalization of the soil and keeping his vines as healthy as possible. And of course, no herbicides or pesticides.
The harvest is done by hand and the wine is aged in neutral oak without filtering, fining, or addition of any sulfur. It’s this respect for the land and the ability to let the grapes express themselves with minimal intervention that makes Schmelzer’s Weingut so unique.

Organic and biodynamically farmed Welschriesling and Samling from soils comprised of gravel, sand and chalk. The average age of the vines is 25 years, they are harvested by hand. Seven hour maceration of Welschriesling, six week maceration of Sämling, spontaneous fermentation in neutral oak barrels with indigenous yeasts. No fining, no filtering and no added SO2.
This skin-contact white wine is bright and aromatic, notes of pear, citrus, and green apple. The color is delicate, not orange, and is slightly cloudy. On the palate the white has beautiful lift and zippy acidity. This refreshing white can be enjoyed by all and should be, it’s delicious!

Whereas much of Austria’s Grüner Veltliner is planted in soils of loess, Stadlmann’s grows in the limestone that characterizes their sector of the Thermenregion, resulting in an elegantly chalky, salty wine less opulent than many versions grown elsewhere. Fermented spontaneously in large neutral-oak casks, it is bottled in May the year after harvest without fining and with only a gentle filtration, rarely topping 12.5% alcohol. Produced from vines planted well south of the cluster of northern-Thermenregion villages that comprise the majority of their holdings, Stadlmann’s Pinot Noir (called “Blauburgunder” locally) is simultaneously fresh and substantial, offering the textural harmoniousness of their white wines, as well as a lifted and elegant spice character that puts one in the mind of excellent red Burgundy. (After all, it was the Cistercian monks who brought Pinot Noir from Burgundy to the Thermenregion in the late 1100s.) Like the estate’s white wines, this is fermented and aged entirely in large, well-worn oak casks and bottled without fining and with only a gentle filtration. 12.5% abv (Rosenthal Wine Merchant Import)

Stadlmann produces a singular riesling that takes advantage of the calcareous soils and temperate climate of the Thermenregion, rendering a classic, flinty expression of the varietal, leading with crisp, ripe green apple and notes of alpine flowers. Fermentation lasts 12 days in stainless steel tanks, with lees ageing for two months. As with all of the wines here, it is produced organically and biodynamically. 12.5% abv (Rosenthal Wine Merchant Import)
