Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes were carefully destemmed and transferred to upright tanks for a two-day cold soak. The wine saw 15 to 20 days of maceration time and was pumped over two to three times daily to build its round, elegant mouthfeel. This Cabernet Sauvignon underwent a maceration period of 10 to 16 days,
which fostered the rich color, medium body, balanced mouthfeel and excellent
aging potential of the wine. Following a moderate fermentation temperature of
75°F, the wine was aged for 22 months in a combination of French, American
and Hungarian oak barrels, 27% of which was new, giving it a plush mouthfeel
and complex layers of flavor.

Tasting Notes:
The 2016 Folie à Deux Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a pure
expression of its region. Concentrated aromas of juicy blackberry, cassis, and
Earl Grey tea sit atop spicy oak notes. Rich, round and robust in structure, this
wine showcases ripe, concentrated flavors of strawberry jam, molasses and
anise notes complemented by chocolate, cherry tobacco and a hint of vanilla
on the balanced finish. Pair the 2016 Folie à Deux Alexander Valley Cabernet

Their red blend from Carneros is a knock-out! A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that spent 24 months in neutral oak and 12 months in bottle before release. The wine is deep, but not brooding, with classic cassis, blackberry, tobacco leaf, and allspice notes. Although full-bodied the wine is lively and easy to drink. Gideon Beinstock has become known for his amazing Clos Saron wines, but the history goes back much further than that. A long and winding road from growing up in Israel, an artist’s life of painting in Paris, helping to plant the Renaissance Vineyards in the 1970’s, international wine sales, and finally finding his way into winemaking at the very same vineyards he had planted almost two decades earlier. It was there at Renaissance that he began learning his craft and made the first of his incredible wines.

Gideon left Renaissance in the late 1990’s to found Clos Saron, just a few miles down the road, but has always felt a connection to Renaissance, both as a piece of his history, and also as a totally unique and special terroir.

Which brings us to the present: Gideon was given the opportunity to reclaim some of the greatest wines he made during his time at Renaissance! These wines have never left the winery and have been aging perfectly, undisturbed for the past two decades.

The cuvees that were hand-picked by Gideon are showing outstandingly right now, and should continue to age gracefully for years to come.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve is fabulous. Inky, rich and explosive, the 2018 is a fine addition to the lineage of one of Napa Valley's most historic wines. Inky red fruit, chocolate, leather and licorice all open in the glass. Aeration brings out floral top notes, raspberry and a hint of blood orange. There is plenty of depth, but the tannins are finer than they were a few years ago. Shorter time on the skins and a reduction in barrel fermentations really allow the pedigree of these Rutherford sites to come through. The 2018 is sensational.
