Worm tubs and weird stills combine to give a complex malt, but one that needs help from oak to blossom fully. There are hedgerow aromas: black currant leaf, hawthorn berries, and lots of honey. Speyside whiskies are known to be fruity and floral, but as the bad boy of Speyside, Craigellachie defies with its oil fired, rich character. Craigellachie 13 is matured in a mixture of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. The bourbon casks bring vanilla, toffee and fudge notes to the fore, and the sherry casks provide richness and complexity.

"Half the whisky was aged in bourbon barrels, the other half in sherry casks. This whisky has always been on my short list as one of the finest, most affordable 12 year old single malts available. While the price may have gone up a bit (I remember when it was $20!), the quality remains the same. It’s fresh and lively. A well-balanced dram, with its tell-tale orange marmalade accompanied by tangerine, pineapple upside-down cake, vanilla-soaked barley, subtle brine, and caramel, all leading to a spicy cinnamon and dried vanilla finish. Nose: Fresh sherry embraces the maltier, more honeyed aspects of Dalwhinnie. Peaty and surprisingly, still heathery. Spicy yet grapy. Palate: A big, spicy buzz followed by an impressive build-up of very clear, well defined Scotch. After a quick burst of sweetness, a rich, grape effect moves in towards the middle. Finish: Tons of oak. Very, very dry with vanilla dominating. The perfect dram for those in search of a very dry malt finish. (Producer's Note) - Malt and Honey -

Hand-crafted in the village of San Baltazar Chichicapa, cradled by low hills in a broad, arid valley. Agave: Espad?. Naturally fermented and twice distilled in wood-fired copper stills. Nose of sweet roasted agave & toasted corn, palate of dried fruit & sweet almond, finish of chocolate & mint. 48%abv - Producer's notes

Hand-crafted in the village of Las Milpas overlooking rolling pastures and nestled among cornfields. Agave: Espadin. Naturally fermented and twice distilled in wood-fired copper stills. Nose of slate and tropical fruit, palate of citrus, lavender and pea shoots, with a long dry finish. ABV 46. - Producer's notes

Hand-crafted in the village of Santa Catarina Minas from a palenque with a long view of the flat, open, treelined valley. Agave: Espadin. Naturally fermented and twice distilled in ancestral ancestral clay stills with bamboo tubing. A nose of granite and fig, palate of citrus, honey and green herbs. ABV 50. - Producers Notes
