Notes of freshly baked bread, crisp green apple, honeysuckle and orange blossom preface Maillet's 2020 Macon-Verze, a medium-bodied, ample and lively wine that's pure and mouthwatering. This is one of the Maconnais's perennial values. Drink: 2022-2030.
Yes, white Burgundy can be crisp! Take Nicolas Maillet Macon Verze Blanc 2020 for instance. Maillet is blessed with old vines on incredibly chalky soils, why would he mask these qualities in his wines with oak aging? He wants his Chardonnays to be refreshing and mineral-driven and that is exactly what he has accomplished. He achieves this by fermenting in epoxy-lined tanks and aging in concrete tanks.

The 2022 Chablis Village was picked at 60hl/ha, triple the amount in the frost-decimated previous year. Originating from the usual parcels and raised entirely in stainless steel, it has a brisk nose with Granny Smiths, lime and wet stone. Classic Chablis. The palate is well-balanced, with a bitter lemon entry lending tension. Taut and linear, it delivers a refreshing, spicy finish that lingers in the mouth. Very fine.

An expressive, fresh and ripe nose freely offers up its aromas of mostly white orchard fruit and floral wisps that possess plenty of classic Chablis typicity. The nicely rich and attractively vibrant middleweight flavors exude a subtle salinity on the clean, dry and sneaky long finish. This is lovely for its level and worth considering...As I was with the 2020s and the 2021s, I was seriously impressed by the Picq 2022s and it's hard to consistently find this level of quality, especially at the villages-level. Note that the house style is ultra-pure with no wood, and I can vouch from personal experience that the wines age extremely well.

William Fevre's Champs Royaux Chablis is impressively precise, delivering a nose of citrus fruits, flowers, green apple and flinty flavors of wet stone in the mid-palate with a beautifully clean finish. Fresh, supple, it is marked by mineral notes, typical of the appellation.
A perfect accompaniment for shellfish menus, grilled fish, oysters, and sushi - but would also work well with many roast chicken recipes seasoned with fresh herbs such as thyme or tarragon.

The vines are on clay and limestone and are farmed organically. The Aligote grapes are direct pressed into stainless steel for fermentation. The wine is then aged in 350L barrels to contribute extra complexity without overpowering the wine. A velvety texture gives way to a focused acidity. Citrus fruit, herbs, and spice are subtly layered mid-palate with a generous finish displaying an almond component. What a delight to drink!
Bastien Gautheron went from the big house to the ever-so-tiny house. No, he wasn’t in jail but worked for the large house of Olivier Lelaive in Burgundy as commercial and marketing director. He left that stable job to follow his passion to be a winemaker and started Maison Gautheron d’Anost. We love to sell new blood in the old Burgundy scene, and we do mean new, his first vintage was in 2020.
His wide-eyed youthful enthusiasm is exactly what Burgundy needs and it seems to be paying off for him. The few fines of his we have tried are terrific! Today we have two of them for you to experience, a lean, focused Aligote from the mecca of Aligote Bouzeron and a fresh, vibrant Pinot Noir from Marsannay. Two beautiful wines that display Bastien winemaking style very well - honest, clean and pure expressions of the varieties by way of a soft touch in the cellar. Burgundy prices have reached the stratosphere and keep on climbing but Bastien’s wines are still under the radar and are fantastic buys.
The Maison owns small holdings in Savigny and Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune, certified organic since 2017. The remainder of the grapes are sourced from trusted winegrowers (mainly friends of Bastien), who work in organic or assimilated organic viticulture. Bastien is part of the new generation of vignerons who are actively trying to transcribe the link between terroir and vineyard thanks to a non-interventionist approach to winemaking.
He favors simple vinifications, with relatively short macerations and fermentations to not over-extract. All the wines are aged in barrels, the oldest are from 2014. The whites are partly aged in large wooden vats of 350L whilst the reds see exclusively barriques.

The Pouilly-Fuissé is a blend of the best vineyard parcels with 10- to 35-year-old vines from the Fuissé amphitheater of limestone and clay soils. Each parcel is vinified separately to ensure the finest expression of the fruit. Half the wine is fermented in enameled tanks and half in used oak barrels.
Subtle notes include minerals, yellow fruits, flowers, fresh hazelnuts and spices, with an intense finish. The perfect equilibrium of this wine allows it to retain its vibrancy with age.

from 90+ year old vines). A very subtle application of wood lurks in the background of the red and dark currant, plum and floral-scented nose. The sleek, delicious and attractively delineated flavors possess better volume though not necessarily better mid-palate density as this too is on the lighter side. This easy going and mildly rustic effort should also drink well on the younger side. - Burghound

Vincent Punier created his Domain in 1988 when he inherited 2 hectares (5 acres) from his parents.
Today the domain is comprised of 13 hectares (32 acres) of vines located on the prestigious hillsides of Auxey-Duresses, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin. The vines are hand-harvested and vinified in a traditional manner, aged in classic percentages of new, one year and two year old oak barrique. Vincent seeks to create wines that have great energy, vibrancy, and balance. Vineyard practices include ploughing the vineyards to encourage deeper roots which in turn enables the vines to capture the complexity of the terroir of each site. Vincent created his domain almost from scratch and has grown it carefully over 30 years. As a one man show he has been intrinsically involved in every aspect of production including many hours working in the vineyards and time spent in the cellar fine tuning his wines. He lives above the winery located in Auxey Duresses and his Auxey Duresses rouge vineyard sits directly across the road. This close physical proximity underlines the very personal signature he makes on each wine he produces.

100% Gamay. From Jean-Paul Brun's organically farmed estate Gamay vines on clay-limestone soils in hilly Charnay in the southern Beaujolais. The name "FRV100" is a play on the word “effervescent”--which becomes more apparent when you sound out the letters and number in French--and is indicative of the playfulness of this off-dry, sparkling rosé. FRV100 is made with the méthode ancestrale: the hand-harvested fruit is destemmed and fermented in vat until it reaches around 6% alcohol. The wine is then lightly filtered and bottled and allowed to finish fermenting; there is always some residual sugar. Though the vintage is not allowed on the label, FRV100 is always a single-vintage wine. (2022)

Vergelesses is a tiny Premier Cru climat of the Pernand-Vergelesses appellation. The vines here were once considered the best in the commune and inspired the local Pernand council to incorporate 'Vergelesses' as part of the village name. The Premier Cru vineyards of Pernand-Vergelesses are divided quite neatly into two sections: to the east of the village and to the south, where they flow into the plains east of Beaune. The eastern section focuses on white wines, while the more-obvious Premier Cru sites - with their south-eastern aspect on the limestone slopes of the Cote d'Or - make both red and white. Vergelesses falls into the second of these categories, producing white wines from Chardonnay and red wines from Pinot Noir. It is located immediately below the Ile de Vergelesses climat,
This historic estate was established in 1834. Claude de Nicolay took over from her mother as winemaker in 1988 and crafts traditionally styled wines from one of the Cote d'Or's great terroirs, the hill of Corton and its surrounding villages. The vineyard management has been fully biodynamic since 2005 and organic since 1998. Claude's brother, Francois de Nicolay joined the domaine in 2001.

The 2013 Corton Blanc actually comes from mainly Corton Bressandes, with 10% from Corton les Chaumes. The nose is clean and fresh with beeswax and yellow flower scents that just need to develop more complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with hints of custard crème and nougat on the entry, nicely judged acidity with a harmonious, slightly nutty finish that fans out gently, but does not wish to exert great length. Enjoy this over the next 4-6 years.
