Grab your red and white checkered tablecloth, your spaghetti marinara, and your date for Friday night. This is the ideal red-sauce joint rosso from Sicily. When we were coming up in the biz, those old-school Chiantis used to be the go-to wines for our Billy Joel "Italian Restaurant" wine, but today this suits the bill perfectly for your inexpensive red for red sauce. - PJ

Sicily, Italy- This is the most widely planted of Sicily's indigenous reds and Cusumano's is grown near the heart of the island. A fruit driven offering with a great bouquet of cherry and rose petal leading to light spice, strawberry and a creamy finish. Delicious and a super value.

The brightness, lovely density and focus come through clearly here with an almost pinot sensibility and a long finish. It's polished with fine tannins and a brilliant texture. Mostly grapes from San Lorenzo and Calderara Sottana vineyards. Drink or hold.

95% Nerello mascalese, 5% Nerello cappuccio. Volcanic soil. Northern slope of Mount Etna, from 600 up to 900 meters above sea level. 5 to 50-year-old vines. Temperature controlled fermentation (25-28° C) with spontaneous malolactic fermentation. Aged in large French oak barrels (10-30 hl) for 16 months of wood aging, plus one month in steel. Bottled unfiltered. Annual production on average 11,000 cases
