Chateau Grand Pey Lescours Saint Emilion Grand Cru 2016
Your Price: $27.97
Save $4.02
Available: 18
Former property of the Baroness Arthur de Brezets, and acquired in 1924 by the Escure family, the ChâteauGrand-Pey-Lescours is located in St Sulpice de Faleyrens, at the foot of the slopes of Saint-Emilion.
The Escures also own Chateau Bellisle Mondotte in the same wine district.
The consultancy of Jean-Marie Bouldy, owner of Ch. Bellegrave in Pomerol and the new generations of the Escure family brought new ideas to valorise Grand Pey Lescours.
Jean-Marie Bouldy is a skilled wine expert and took over the management of the family estate Bellegrave in1980 and was joined by his wife Pascale in 1995. Their children also began working at the estate (Aurélie in 2014 and Jean-Baptiste in 2015), continuing Château Bellegrave’s true family orientation.
Jean Marie Bouldy is one of the few growers with a soft spot for the environment in Pomerol and hestarted an unofficial conversion to organic practices from 2001 onwards. Château Bellegrave officially converted to organic agriculture with its ECOCERT certification in 2009.
With Jean Marie arrival at Chateau Gran Pey Lescours, all the vineyard started to be trained according toorganic techniques and the estate wines are fully organic certified since the 2014 vintage. It’s undeniable that Jean Marie consultancy has completely boosted the vineyards potentiality.
Grand Pey Lescours’ vineyards are planted with grape varieties typical of St Emilion – 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon – on gravelly and sandy soils and cover nearly 26 hectares.
The soils are gravelly and sandy with a sub-soil showing traces of iron hardpan.
The estate is arguably the definition of quality and value in Saint-Emilion – if not Bordeaux itself.Certainly worth the wait. Rather than releasing wines in their infancy, Jean-Marie Bouldy likes to keep stock back until he feels it’s ready to be drunk.

CVNE Vina Real Reserva Rioja 2016
93 WA
Your Price: $25.97
Save $4.02
Available: 13
The textbook Rioja Alavesa red 2016 Viña Real Reserva was produced with 90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano, Garnacha and Mazuelo, mostly from their own grapes. It fermented in stainless steel vats and matured in new and second use barriques for 22 months. This is a more delicate version of the Reserva with added freshness and a touch of red fruit. It has contained ripeness, elegance and balance with very tasty flavors and abundant fine-grained tannins.
92 points Vinous
Deep, shimmering ruby. Expressive, spice-accented red berry and cherry preserve and floral aromas are complemented by suggestions of smoky minerals, vanilla and cured tobacco. Sweet and energetic on the palate, offering juicy black raspberry and cherry flavors that flesh out slowly with air. In a lively style, displaying sharp clarity, discreet tannins and an echo of candied rose on the long, penetrating finish.

Lopez de Heredia Vina Cubillo Crianza Rioja 2016
94 WA
Your Price: $29.97
Save $4.02
Available: 67
The 2016 Viña Cubillo Tinto Crianza was surprising, spectacular, elegant, clean and fresh like few vintages before. It was a superb year, with quality, quantity and freshness. It's quite the opposite from the previous 2015, which was a much warmer and riper year. The 2016s have moderate alcohol and especially the perception of less ripeness (even though the alcohol is very similar). It feels very young, still quite primary. Mercedes explained, "Cubillas, a 24-hectare plot, is a vineyard that could produce Gran Reserva wines. It's a very good vineyard, but we would miss the Crianza in our range". In fact, the comment was that this vintage is even a challenge for the Viña Tondonia red "because of its price." It is indeed a bargain. "But it doesn't have the finesse of Tondonia," concluded María José. Anyway, it's super tasty. 92,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2022. Drinking Window: 2024 - 2032

It could be a Gran Reserva," says María José López de Heredia of a wine that is always sold as a Crianza, partly for historic reasons. Picked late in a cooler vintage, it partners Tempranillo with 20% Garnacha, and 5% each of Graciano and Mazuelo. Earthy, stemmy yet refreshing, it has negligible oak, racy redcurrant and pomegranate fruit and savoury tannins. 2024-29

Senorio de P. Pecina Reserva Rioja 2016
Your Price: $27.97
Save $4.02
Available: 18
I love the textbook nose of the 2016 Señorío de P. Peciña Reserva, as it is earthy, spicy and developed, with notes of leather and vanilla and a touch of smoke and brick dust. It has ripe fruit without excess and a medium-bodied palate with great balance and freshness. It has pungent flavors and is powerful and ripe without excess at 14.5% alcohol and with polished chalky tannins. This matured in American oak barrels for 36 months, during which time it was racked every six months. 42,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2020
