Cantina Puiatti was founded in 1967 by Vittorio Puiatti in the northeastern corner of Italy’s Friuli region. Vittorio was a pioneer of modern winemaking methods and sought to highlight Friuli’s indigenous and international grape varieties by emphasizing their purity – no oak is ever used in production.

Bordered by Slovenia, Austria and the Adriatic sea, the Friuli wine region benefits from both maritime and continental climates. The cool, dry Bora wind coming down from the Balkans alternates with breezes blowing in from the Adriatic. The region also experiences easterly winds blowing up from the Mediterranean. This causes a unique microclimate, beneficial to the production of white wines, particularly aromatic varietals. Plentiful sunshine and wide temperature variation assists in the slow maturing of the vines, yielding firm, well-balanced grapes full of flavor and aroma. The Puiatti estate is located in two of Friuli’s most important wine producing areas: 25 acres in Collio and 124 acres in Isonzo.

Iconic Montalcino producer Castello Banfi leases 42 acres in the Chianti Classico commune of Castellina in Chianti for its Fonte alla Selva label. The estate also has long-term contracts to purchase wines from three to four producers for this Chianti Classico. This is a beautiful rose from Veneto, Italy, comprised of 60% Corvina, 35% Rondinella, and 5% Molinara. The color is extremely delicate but don’t let that fool you as this wine has quite the presence on the palate. Very well-balanced and structured with much more character to offer than the color suggests. The grapes are harvested about a week earlier than for the straight Bardolino to preserve freshness. The skin contact pre-fermentation is overnight. Varieties are all fermented together in stainless steel and malolactic fermentation is blocked. Aged on its lees until bottling in February.

In the Apulian plain, in the center of the Salento peninsula, between the Ionian and the Adriatic sea, extends the territory of Copertino. In 1935, thirty-six vine growers founded the Cantina Sociale of Copertino, with the aim of improving the cooperation and the production of their own vineyards and the trade of their wine. Today the cooperative numbers 300 proud members who confer their own harvest. The vine cultivated area extends to around 300 hectares, and all wines are meticulously treated with wisdom, result of tradition and innovation, obtaining excellent wines, able to arouse enthusiasm.

This vibrant, full-bodied red is a blend of grapes harvested in parcels spread amongst the three communes of Barbaresco, Neive and Alba. Included as the primary source are grapes harvested in the cru “Ga’Grosso” in Barbaresco. The grapes are crushed and are then fermented in stainless steel for almost two weeks after which the wine is racked into oak barrels and “botti” for one year prior to bottling.
