The 2021 Riesling Rüdesheimer Rosengarten Monopol Grosses Gewächs is from three parcels, namely Rosengarten, Bienengarten and Kreuzgarten, close to the river on sandy soils. It spent 19 months on lees. A balm-like lift defines the nose, adding the merest edge of dried white currant. The palate is light, concentrated and supremely clean-cut, with a wonderfully mouthwatering zestiness akin to grapefruit. For a three-year-old wine, this is beautifully youthful and has barely embarked on its evolution. The 2021 is vividly slender and so serene. (Bone-dry). Drinking Window: 2026 - 2056
Rosengarten is one of the oldest parcels in Rüdesheim, located in the heart of the village. About a decade ago Leitz leased the vineyards surrounding the present-day ruin, the fortress of the Broemser knights, built around 1044 A.D., and has been experimenting with the wine's style ever since. As Johannes grew to understand the site, he realized that it was destined to express a great dry riesling. Today Leitz works this enclosed site which is composed of 3 parts; the Kreuzgarten (garden of the cross) north of the fortress, the Bienengarten (garden of the bees) and the main site the Rosengarten (garden of roses), which contains the oldest vines. The soils are mainly assembled of sandy loess-loam with quartz, giving the soil excellent water distribution.
