The 2018 Saint-Amour from Domaine des Billards opens in the glass with a pretty bouquet of ripe cherries, raspberries, dried flowers and licorice. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy, with a layered and enveloping core of fruit, ripe acids and melting tannins, the vintage making for a decidedly gourmand and approachable rendition of this perennially excellent cuvée. It’s a terrific Saint-Amour and great value, too, that’s well worth seeking out.
The 2018 vintage is a great success for the Barbet family's five-hectare Domaine des Billard. Cultivated soils, traditional vilification with whole bunches and a submerged cap, followed by élevage in foudre are the rudiments of the approach. This is well worth seeking out.

Brilliant violet. Ripe and expansive on the fragrant nose, displaying an array of dark berry and floral aromas sharpened by peppery spice and mineral flourishes. Densely packed yet lively, offering sappy black raspberry, bitter cherry and violet pastille flavors that are lifted by a core of juicy acidity. Finishes very long and smoky, showing excellent clarity and a late jolt of candied licorice.

The 2020 Morgon Côte du Py is one of the region's most dependable classics, unfurling in the glass with notes of cassis, sweet berry fruit, spices and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a seamless, complete profile, it concludes with a long, mouthwatering finish. Drink: 2021-2035.

The 2020 Morgon Côte du Py represents a blend of six hectares from around the climat, each with its own attributes. It has an intense bouquet of black cherries, black olive and saline notes, all very well defined with wonderful focus. The palate is medium-bodied with silky-smooth tannins, superb mineralité and a harmonious finish featuring black cherries, blueberry, blood orange and citrus fruit, full of nervosité and admirably persistent. Burgaud said that he had been advised to bottle the various plots separately, but I think this blend represents more than the sum of its parts.

Winemaker Notes:
A top-tier old vine Beaujolais-Villages from a densely planted, early ripening sector. This super value is supple, succulent and very pretty. Certified organic and practicing dynamic.
92pts James Suckling:
Very attractive aromas of black cherries, brambleberries and wet earth follow through to a medium to full body with layers of fruit and a flavorful finish. Mushroom and dry-earth undertones at the end. A solid Beaujolais from a low-intervention artist. Drink now.
