An all-malt blend from Nikka's two distilleries, one Hokkaido and the other in Aoba-ku, this is a very dark intense whisky, with notes of vanilla, toffee, and chocolate. Smooth on the palate, but with a finish that can linger for several minutes. 40%abv

The nose has sandalwood, floral aromas, spice, green tea, and vanilla. On the palate, there's a lot of aromatic wood, cedar, cloves, tea, citrus zest, spice, and a touch of smoke. The spice, smoke, green tea, and wood linger through the finish.

Takamine Koji Whiskey is made with the patented Takamine Process, which uses an ancient Japanese mold, koji, to convert starches to sugars in a process similar to malting barley.

Unlike malt whiskey where sugars are extracted in a warm water mash before yeast is introduced to start the fermentation, both the koji and yeast are active at the same time in a multiple parallel fermentation. This 100% barley ferment is then double distilled and aged in virgin oak and ex-Bourbon casks.
