Located in the South of Chile, in the region of Bio-Bio, Tinto de Rulo is the project of three friends with the same dream, make artisanal, terroir driven wines. They work closely with small winegrowers, using only grapes from organic vineyards established at least a century ago. They aim to bring out the character of each place, emphasizing minimal intervention in order to showcase all of the vineyard´s characteristics to the bottle. Stadlmann produces a singular riesling that takes advantage of the calcareous soils and temperate climate of the Thermenregion, rendering a classic, flinty expression of the varietal, leading with crisp, ripe green apple and notes of alpine flowers. Fermentation lasts 12 days in stainless steel tanks, with lees ageing for two months. As with all of the wines here, it is produced organically and biodynamically. 12.5% abv (Rosenthal Wine Merchant Import)

The 2021 7 Fuentes was quite similar to the 2020 that I tasted next to it, but this year they merged the 7 Fuentes and 7 Fuentes El Lance into a single cuve of Listn Negro and 5% Castellana Negra, so it has grapes from more vineyards, 30 different ones. It fermented with 20% full clusters in concrete with indigenous yeasts and matured for 11 months, 50% in concrete and 50% in used 500-liter oak barrels; then it was blended and kept in stainless steel for a further eight months. It has 12.63% alcohol and good acidity and freshness. This is quite approachable and less reductive and at the same time fresher. They have been working to increase the pH of the soil to get less reduction in the wines; each year as the soils are healthier, there is less reduction in the wines.

The Aosta Valley lies at the foot of Europe’s highest mountain, Mont Blanc, in the northwestern corner of Italy. Surrounded by the Alp's highest peaks, Aosta is home to Europe’s highest vineyards many of which reach heights over 1,000 meters. The soils are mainly rocky and alluvial, with slate, granite and quartz.
Despite the alpine position, located at the south side of the Alps the Aosta Valley is blessed with a high amount of sunshine and relatively low rainfall. Due to geographical, physical, and climatic limitations, Aosta Valley has always been considered a “harsh” territory. Therefore, wine production is focused on quality rather than quantity. A fine example is the Rosset winery where quality is at the forefront, if you can find their wines.
The Rosset family decided to plant their first vineyards in the area of Saint Christophe in 2001. The first cultivated plot was about three hectares at an altitude of around 750 meters. The 2021 Tinto, produced with 75% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha and 5% white grapes, is serious and austere, produced with grapes from cooler parts of Rioja to achieve freshness and aging potential without having to resource to very long aging in barrel (this was in barrels and foudres of different ages and sizes for some 16 months). It opened up with time in the glass to a medium to full-bodied palate with very fine tannins and a clean, long and tasty, almost salty finish. It's a wine that transcends its price. 25,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2023.

On the palate, it is dry, rich and fairly taut with a lingering juicy profile, offering notes of black fruit and a clingy texture.
