Saint Georges is not a site name, but rather the proprietary name they attached to this cuvée, which is a blend of blocks off of the Santa Cruz Mountains (50’ too low to qualify for what became the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation in 1981). The Zinfandel vines at this site were first planted in 1922 on gravelly loam soils, and have been farmed continuously by the Besson family since 1925. Fermented with native yeasts and matured in neutral barriques and demi-muid. Unfined/unfiltered.

Jolie-Laide is a one-man operation based in a Sebastopol winery where winemaker Scott Schultz makes only 500 cases of wine a year under his own label. The name Jolie-Laide translates loosely to "Pretty-Ugly", a French term of endearment to describe something that is unconventionally beautiful. Scott makes some of the most unique and highly sought-after wines in California that are true to their name.
Scott's passion for wine was ignited when moved to Napa from Chicago in 2007. Having had extensive experience in the restaurant business, he switched gears upon his arrival in California to lead the wine program at Thomas Keller's Bouchon. Working a harvest and as a cellar master are a few of Scott's many achievements. He now works with Wind Gap, Ryme Cellars, and formerly Arnot-Roberts. It's a blend of 65% Garnacha from Cárdenas and Cordovín and 35% Tempranillo from Samaniego that fermented destemmed but uncrushed (so not exactly a carbonic maceration) with clean and fresh aromas and flavors. It's ripe and hedonistic, with 14.5% alcohol and good freshness. It matured in concrete for five months.

The first vintage is 2021, but the 2020s are already labeled and sold through this new project. In total, they have 15 hectares in Méntrida and Real de San Vicente, some owned, some rented, but all are worked by them organically (and in due time they should get the certification). Production is around 40,000 bottles. It's a great new addition to Gredos.
