The 2017 Reserva comes from the frost year when they lost a great part of the grapes. The cycle was very short and the summer was warm, and it was one of their earlier harvests. The wine comes in at a moderate 14% alcohol and feels very approachable, with grip and some tannins that would welcome food. They still produced 40,000 bottles, because there was less Crianza.

In 1974, Jean Mourat founded Vignobles Mourat when he purchased Chateau Marie de Fou in Mareuil. Jean's son, Jeremie, took over J. Mourat in 2000, and has been working diligently to raise the profile of his region, the Fiefs Vendeens. Fiefs Vendeens is the westernmost region of the Loire Valley, only 20 km from the Atlantic Ocean and an hour south of Nantes. Because of its proximity to the ocean, the Atlantic is the dominant climactic influence, providing for cold, wet winters, cool and cloudy spring, and warm, humid, sunny summers. J. Mourat's vineyards are located on hillsides overlooking the Lay Valley grown on volcanic and schist soils. Since taking over in 2000, Jeremie has converted to organic farming and working naturally in the cellar while championing the traditions of this ancient winemaking region.

The J. Mourat Blanc Collection is a blend of 50% Chenin Blanc and 50% Chardonnay from 20 year old vines. The grapes are gently pressed, cold settled and the wine is fermented and aged all in stainless steel tanks. Light gold in color, the Blanc Collection displays aromas of green orchard fruits, lanolin and white flowers. On the palate, this medium-bodied wine has a sharp, broad acidity that delivers incredible freshness

Chardonnay really suffered with the frosts in 2022, and I was worried about the ripening conditions this vintage, but in general, things worked out,’ says Jean Nicolas Méo. Fruit from Bishop Creek, Spirit Hill and von Oehsen, a site of 20-year-old vines in the Eola-Amity Hills. There is a great deal of minerality. ‘For Chardonnay, this is not a super ripe vintage, it's around 21 or 22 brix. In general, sugars were low, and the wines carry great freshness and the Chardonnays achieved optimum ripeness in a very light way. There is a liveliness,’ Méo concludes. The 2014 Gran Reserva Seoro de P. Pecia is a blend of 95% Tempranillo, 3% Graciano and 2% Garnacha, sourced from the Sonsierra area in Rioja Alta. Aged for 48 months in American oak barrels, the balsamic nose also features herbal and black fruit notes with hints of dried flowers and a vanilla undertone. Dry and enveloping on the palate, the juicy, heightened acidity makes this a refreshing red. A faintly volatile finish adds character. This well-balanced Gran Reserva exemplifies the character of a cold year in the Sonsierra, maintaining a lightweight spirit.

It matured in used American oak barrels for 48 months and was racked every six months. Then aged three years in bottle.

The 2022 Chiesamonti is stellar. Chiesamonti is often marked by slightly coarse tannins. In 2022, intense summer heat amplified the fruit, yielding an especially showy, racy edition of the Chiesamonti. Plush contours wrap around a core of dark red/purplish fruit, blood orange, rose petal, lavender and spice. Readers will have a hard time keeping their hands off this wine. And why should they? This is pure and total seduction.

Light-bodied, bright, pale yellow with depth and a gold hue, even colour throughout. The nose is appealing and pure, with aromas of honeysuckle, tropical fruit and stonefruit.

This has racy acidity driving flavors of ripe green apple, lemon blossoms, biscuit and white cherry as they ride the finely detailed mousse. Mouthwatering and elegant, with a chalky finish. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

This has become the house Champagne for a number of PJ staffers, and for good reason. It's a grower Champagne that blows away almost everything in its price range. Here, you're not paying for ad campaigns, marketing hype, or labels, but just stellar Champagne. This leans more towards the Pinot Noir side of the Champagne spectrum, and there are delightful hints of the red fruit on the nose, followed by refined, tight bubbles on the tongue. Not yeasty or bread-y; more of a drink-now electricity that inspires us to keep our fridges well-stocked with its hand remuaged delights. - PJ

The 2019 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is the hallmark wine of the estate, and it shows. Taking on more concentration, it is pure and generous with kirsch, star anise, nutmeg, and menthol and moves impressively to the palate with ease and nobility. It offers fantastic depth while remaining true to the vintage and propels forward through an arch of acidity, while having grounded notes of Earl Grey tea, black cherry, and crushed stones as well as ripe tannins.

El Tesoro uses 100% estate grown agave, allowing the agave to grow longer than most to peak maturity, crushing the agave with a volcanic tahona wheel to extract and intensify agave flavor. It is then aged in American oak ex-bourbon barrels for four to five years. Winner of 2019 Double Gold medal, International Spirits Challenge. 40%abv

An Extra Anejo tequila hand selected from the Cuervo family's private collection. Each year, the collectible packaging is graced with the artwork of a well known Mexican artist. This year's artist is Mario Garcia Torres, who attempts to document a selection of the vegetation of the agave region of Jalisco region. Each bottle is numbered, dated, and sealed in wax, all by hand. Every aspect of Reserva De La Familia is handcrafted at the La Rojena distillery. Pictured on the bottle, it is the oldest active distillery in Latin America. Made using only the flavorful inner portion of hand-selected blue agave plants. Aged for a minimum of two years, the final blend includes tequila from reserves as old as 30 years.

Distiller Notes
Predominant aromas of sweet citrus fruit with hints of ginger, exotic flowers and spices are supported by a framework of cinchona bark and bitter root extracts. Adds refreshing fruit flavors and crisp bitterness to a variety of cocktails. Pairs especially well with sparkling wine and aged spirits.

Starting with a California white wine base, they fortify the wine using neutral grape spirits. Then they add grape concentrate and cane sugar for a rich mouth feel and a sweet finish.

Dominican Republic- Aged for 23 years in American oak casks, this rum has a deep amber and copper color with an aroma of dried fruits and sweet, toasted breads. On the palate, initial hints of honey, toffee and caramelized sugar lead to subtler notes of almond and vanilla.

This Bordeaux blanc is definitely past its prime but wine drinkers with an interest and enthusiasm for whites with age may find it enjoyable. The wine has turned golden in color and has a mild nose of burnt caramel. The palate coats and is textural with nuttiness and more caramel. It finishes like a dry sherry. It might be good with aged Gouda. With this forewarning we will only sell the bottle on a no return basis.

The use of the smaller cask size, which ensures increased contact with the oak, creates a soft and velvety edge to complement Laphroaig’s distinctive peatiness. The darkest and most intense whisky in their extra-matured range, Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban has spent 10 years maturing in American white oak casks, before being transferred into ruby port pipes from the Quintas or wine estates of Portugal.
