Eric Asimov of The New York Times on Weszeli:
"This bright and lively grüner veltliner from the Kamptal region of Austria has rare depth for a wine in this price range. The vigneron, Davis Weszeli, farms biodynamically, and seeks to maintain a wide diversity of life on his estate, which I always believe is healthy for grapevines. The wine — spicy, herbal and saline — would be great to pair with coming spring treats, like asparagus in all its guises."
From 13-52 year old vines grown on sea sediment intermixed with limestone, the grapes were hand-harvested tin mid-to-late October. Half the grapes were whole cluster pressed while the other half were left macerating overnight with stems. Spontaneous fermentation lasts four weeks with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel with temperature control. Aged for five months in stainless steel. Unfiltered.
