07 Sankt Anna Riesling, Kabinett $9.99
This brighter than bright Riesling is a steal. You almost never get the balance between acid and residual sugar at this price-point, and it shows some terrific notes of peach, pear, and ripe stone fruits. This is a "do anything" wine and is just at home with some Chinese take-out, as it is with a cheese-plate, or as a midweek quaffer.
09 Chateau Fantin Bordeaux Bordeaux Blanc $9.99
This is a fresh tasting wine, surrounded by a slightly rich edge that adds a little extra body. Think of it like a cool spring day held together by the warm afternoon sun. Or, more to the point, mouth watering lemon notes rounded out by some soft melon fruit. There's also a nice cool punch of green apples, a relaxed tartness, and a lip smacking edge that would blend beautifully with some hard cheese and fruit. Maybe some fresh goat cheese and strawberries, or just a simple baguette and some brie. Ahh, the simple pleasures in the life are always the best!
07 Stephen Vincent Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley $8.99
Deep dark ruby color, with hints of blackberry and cassis. Serve this affordable gem with roast chicken, beef, pork, and pasta.
08 Caves Vidigal Portugal Reserva Tinto $5.49
It's a touch ironic that Portuguese reds have been somewhat of a rarity on these shores, considering the long history the country has of producing exciting wine. Here's a chance to jump in and see what the quant country next to the Atlantic has to offer.
07 Stephen Vincent Syrah, Crimson Blend $8.99
Deep dark crimson in color, with lots of black fruit in the nose. Soft tannins round out rich flavors of licorice, blackberries and cinnamon. This is a great wine to pair with beef and lamb dishes.
07 Giacomo IGT Toscana Sangiovese $7.99
This is a perfect Sangiovese for very little money. Ruby red in the glass and possessed with pleasant aromas of cherries, plum and a hint of red currant. The palate is loaded with rich, dried cherry flavors that are backed by a note of tangy acidity and moderate tannins. This is an ideal mid-week red that is perfect with pizza, pasta, burgers and roast chicken.
08 Tilia Mendoza Bonarda $6.49
The 2008 Tilia Bonarda has a deep purple color. The nose shows ripe red fruits with a hint of violets and anis. The mouthfeel is sweet and juicy with raspberry and cherry fruit flavors with spicy black pepper notes. The finish is soft and sweet, with round, velvety tannins.
08 Bieler Pere Et Fils Coteaux d'Aix Sabi/ Syrah Grenache Blend $8.99
07 Bodegas Alto Almanzora "Este" Almeria Monastrell Blend $8.97
This beautiful red exhibts lots of red fruit (cherries, blackberries etc), well integrated with soft oak(Vanilla, toffee). Good structure, well balanced and well rounded. Long smooth finish! Excellent!
07 Alto AlmanzoraSpanish Red, Este/ Almeria $8.97
There are 10,000 cases of Alto Almanzora's 2007 Este, a blend of 45% Monastrell, 25% Tempranillo, and the balance Syrah, Garnacha, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is sourced from the little-known DO of Almeria located in eastern Andalucia in the south-east of Spain . The wine was aged for six months in French and American oak. Deep purple in color (remarkably dense for its humble price), it offers up a kinky, full-blown nose of smoke, spice box, and wild blueberry. Ripe, succulent, and layered, this bargain-priced, hedonistic effort totally over-delivers. Buy it by the palette load and drink it over the next three years.WA90
